ABOUT O‘AHU
The Hawaiian Islands are one of the most beautiful places on earth. With its sweeping jade rainforests and shining golden beaches, Hawai‘i has aptly earned its nickname of Paradise. It was this pristine, unspoiled vision that greeted the first Polynesians as they arrived on Hawai‘i’s shores over 500 years ago. Although made up of several dozen islands, the Hawaiian Islands are defined by the eight major islands of O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Maui, Hawai‘i, Moloka‘i, Lana‘i, Ni‘ihau and Kaho‘olawe. While each island rests in relative close proximity of one another, they have their own qualities and characteristics, making each one unique and special.
Sometimes called “The Gathering Place,” O‘ahu certainly lives up to its name. The third largest Hawaiian island is home to the majority of Hawai‘i’s diverse population. Here you’ll find a fusion of East and West cultures rooted in the values and traditions of the Native Hawaiian people. It’s this fundamental contrast between the ancient and the modern that makes discovering O‘ahu — from bustling city life to laidback surf towns — so enjoyable. You’ll find plenty of different options for exploring O‘ahu’s different regions, the island’s many activities, its eclectic restaurants and accommodations.
Waikiki Beach, on the island of O‘ahu, is unquestionably one of the most famous beaches in the world. You can bask in the sun, enjoy the clear blue water and let the tropical island breezes blow your cares away. And that’s only part of the fun of Waikiki, which is also home to many shops, restaurants and clubs. In this most cosmopolitan area of Hawai‘i, the blend of international culture and tropical island paradise is where “almost anything is possible.”
The average daytime temperature in Hawai‘i is 81 degrees F (29.4 C) and the average low is 70 degrees F. For travel to Hawaii, casual and lightweight clothing is recommended. Comfortable casual wear such as shorts, sandals, walking shoes, flip-flops, bathing suits and cover-ups is the usual daytime attire and appropriate for recreation and sightseeing activities.
E komo mai, explore to your heart’s content. Everyone is welcome.
